Don't forget that you were born original. There can never be another you...only a replica.
I am thinking about impersonators and how many of them work feverishly to look like someone whom they admire. They undergo numerous surgeries, get odd jobs to purchase new clothing/jewelry, and take pills to change their voices. They do whatever it takes to look, sound, feel, vibe, walk, be, and exist as someone that they're not. Why do they do this? They are simply working to achieve another identity outside their own.
In your case...
You may be faced with not knowing who you truly are.
Life can be confusing, but I urge you to get to know you. Get to know your likes, dislikes, flaws, and perfections. What's your favorite color? Do you have a favorite food? What are your hobbies? What makes you different from other people?
Go back to the days when you were in elementary school and you didn't really care what others thought of you. You were new to everything around you and you felt comfortable in your own skin. If you didn't feel this way as a child, think of the earliest time that you did not care what others thought of you. You danced when no one was watching. You smiled outside the window. You admired your smile. You loved your body.
Don't forget that you were born original.
You were created with only one you.
There can only be clones.
There can only be duplicates.
Be original.
BE YOU.

The World Is Showing Its True and Ugly Colors: Michael Brown Case, Islamic State, Syria...
I made it clear in a Facebook video that the world is showing its truest and ugly colors. Reminds me of a rotting fruit. From the outside, the world is beautiful. The blue, green, white cup illuminate the globe like an orange wrapped in paint. Earth appears perfect from the outside, but most people know that nothing is perfect (or new) under the sun.
The world seems to be spiraling downward. The news online, in print, and on television cannot be published without word of war or turmoil. Americans are mostly used to wars occurring overseas, but we are also experiencing war on our own soil.
Just recently, Michael Brown, an 18-year-old rising college freshman, was buried after being shot to death by an cop who accused him of robbery and other accusations. Evidence showed that the young man was unarmed and wrongfully murdered, but there has been no justice with the officer who shot him. Then there's the war in Syria with the so-called Islamic State (formerly called ISIS) who has been taking over parts of Syria and Iraq. Countless Christians and other religious groups have been persecuted and beheading for not "converting to Islam, leaving, or paying a tax," which were the three options given to those who the terrorist group confronted. Many have fled to the mountains and other areas in terror and fear. On another note, there is discord between other countries all for various reasons. War within, against, and outside the USA. Could things get any worse?
Earth is like a rotting fruit sometimes.
In a matter of time, it will disintegrate into nothingness. It doesn't have to. If more of the world turned from their wicked ways and acknowledged that Jesus Christ is Lord, we can be delivered. If people would repent from their evil ways--just stop sinning--this world could truly be a better place. The Lord gave clear instructions in 2 Chronicles 7:14,
It starts with me. It starts with you.

Tragedies of the World Are Increasing and the Only Way Is to Pray
So, in addition to me posting career posts, I will minister to all who are thirsty for spiritual fulfillment and truth. Not only must be pay our bills, but we must also have some sort of direction about how we think, feel, and act.
I like to stay updated on the news and am disheartened by all that is going on. Every day, there is tragedy. There are gospel lyrics that say, "Tragedies are commonplace" these days and I have to agree. I can't think of a day that nothing horrible has happened to someone or somewhere. Why is that? It is true that the Holy Bible's word is getting fulfilled and we must prepare our hearts and minds for what is and are to come.
"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."
- Verses from 2 Timothy 3
These things have already happened and more is on the way. Why are we not alert? Some of us choose to avoid the news for "reality" television. For a moment, we need to seriously think about our lives and truly make the decision of whether or not we will live for Jesus Christ, or not. We cannot serve God and evil at the same time. We will end up loving one more than the other.

Describe your job story: my job started with wanting to be an owner. An owner of whatever.
Describe your job story: my job started with wanting to be an owner. An owner of whatever.
Lol! I just was tired of punching in on someone else's clock. My dreams were bigger than the
box of my jobs. I wanted a dream career. So I was given the thoughts of writing a book, an
opportunity to own a small boutique and the desires to build a brand. It started small but is
constantly growing and making me proud of my decision to step out! I'm moving into my
destiny and glad I made the choice!
What did you want to be when you were a child/ teenager? I actually wanted to be a nurse
anesthetist! I had dreams of making the money and only working a few days a week. Then I
was hit with the reality if death and realized that I didn't want to be around that. I know that's
only looking at the downside but that was enough to change my mind. I wanted to always be
a help.
Are doing your dream job? I am now doing my dream job. I am running an empire and
creating new streams of income often. I am meeting new people, traveling to new destinations
and building a team that dreams as big as I do. If you know me you know that I dream as big
as my God is.

What do you like MOST about what you do? What do you like the LEAST? I love being me!
I enjoy being at the top of the mountain and watching how my team creates an avenue to
greatness. It feels good to dream, however is feels outstanding to watch your dreams manifest.

The least enjoyable part of owning or building an empire is realizing that there are great people
out there but they aren't always great for your team. I love people and I enjoy helping
whenever and wherever I can. However when it comes to business there is a criteria and
all bullet points have to be met.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? I see myself as a well sought after mogul in my
industry. I see myself as the new " go to " person in business and entrepreneurship. I believe
I'm myself and I can't win if I quit!

Are you happy with where you are in life? I am happiest now more than ever.
What more do you want to do with your life?
I want to continue to create, build and help! I want to leave a legacy for my children. I also
want to leave footprints for others to follow so that they too can live out their dreams despite
their circumstances.
What drives/motivates you? My children motivate me. My inner will to succeed motivates me.
What else do you do?
I am an author, speaker, founder of a foundation and I own a boutique. I also own a publishing

What is your advice to those who are seeking employment and have no hope?
With no hope you will not be hired. One must understand that when you are seeking
employment you have to be happy about the doors shut in your face. These are the positions
that were not created for you. However, you can't win if you quit. Everyday is new and
everyday is a new opportunity. In order to tackle the opportunity you sometimes have to take
a chance. In a lot of instances when you choose not to take a chance, you've just missed out on
the perfect opportunity. Don't stay in a box. It can only close in your dreams. Always be
willing to step out and expand your mind. Knowledge is power!

When Life Smacks You Hard on the Face
I have a way of keeping my own self motivated by re-focusing my mind and numbing my emotions. In a way, I zone out and make serious efforts to pursue a more pleasant feeling. When I get bad news or am in an uncomfortable situation, I take a deep breath and think about what I enjoy. I enjoy imagination, so...I imagine. I imagine myself in a different situation. I picture myself a few more years down the line and wonder, Will things be better then? Then my optimistic side answers, But of course!
See, I'm an optimist. And like I may have mentioned in another post, blog, note, or one of my 200+ YouTube vids, I refuse to be plagued by negativity, negative people, or negative things. When life snatches its hand back and brings it down hard on my face, I imagine. I use what my Creator instilled in me and create a new mindset. I don't kick my situation to the curb, though. I don't forget...I simply reset and try something else.
We have got to live by this wonderful scripture...
The pattern of this world is to let hardships and disappointments break your peace of mind. The pattern of this world is to feel defeated when challenges come. I can't and won't let that happen.
I must always keep my mind stayed on Jesus Christ.
I refuse to lose hope. Here's one of my latest FB statuses:

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2 NIV)

"Better to believe in something than nothing at all. That's where HOPE comes from. If we had no hope, we'd be sitting somewhere angry, defensive, and bitter. KEEP HOPE ALIVE."So, before you give up, drop the ball, or throw in the towel, quickly remind yourself of YOUR POWER to create new thoughts and a new mindset. Shift your thinking, especially when you have no control of your circumstance(s).

The Laws of Attraction
I have always been an optimist. I have always looked at the brighter side of things. As a result, I am able to have peace in difficult situations. I can think positively while everyone else around me are negative. Because I have a positive mindset, I am able to ATTRACT positive things.
Here's an interesting read I found online entitled, "The Laws of Attraction." You attract and become what you think.
Everyone with rare exception knows that you attract into your life a reflection of what you think. But you also attract into your life wh...at you judge. If you think men are players, you attract players, if you think people are dishonest, you attract dishonest people. If you are focused on a sickness or disease, you attract more. If you focus on poverty or lack, you gain nothing more than an empty bank account. Everything you hold in your conscious thought becomes your cage and your reality.
Manifestations begin with a single thought, the spark of energy that lights the flame of continuation.
It spins and spirals into the universe where angels receive its charge and light the flame to quicken its flow. Your intensity, your passion and desire then propel it further into the maze where all thoughts go known as the collective conscience. It searches then encircles your previous thoughts aligned to the same frequency then like a boomerang it returns to you with the same amount of energy you poured into creating it. Whether you intended it or not, if you think it in some way or fashion, it is so
Why not fake until you make it folks. See abundance, see honesty in all, embrace good healthy, emotionally healthy people, focus on the beauty and not the ugly. And for crying out loud fix what hurts you, heal what aches, mend your mind and restore it to perfection. You were born of perfection, it is your core, meditate, exercise, eat nutritionally and address what you are harboring, then you will attract lovely all day long

I’m Completely and UTTERLY Sick of This
Compromising my time, my thoughts, my emotions, my devotions…and
I’m done. Done with worrying about how anything will get taken care of and done
with worrying about my future. By a show of hands, who can relate?
Just recently, I have been bloated with the motivation to
ACT while being inspired.
Not on-the-stage acting, but the type of acting that
involves action.
I was a at a point where I would be filled with wants and
desires to be the best that I could be, but now, finally, I am not just
wanting, but I am doing.
Currently reading a book published in the 1991 about “getting off your butt.” That’s PART of the actual title. I love it to pieces! Could write a review about it…and you
know what…I just might get into writing book reviews. But this book is just the
push I need to get up, get out, and do something.
Many of my friends will say that I AM doing! They will think
that I AM being about what I encourage, but there’s nothing like feeling ugly
when the world feels you’re the most attractive person alive. To let you into
my personal realm, I feel that I am not doing enough with my time…so I am doing
something about it. Something different. I am concerning myself less with the
consequences of investing in myself and simply, GOING FOR IT! This is my LEAP
YEAR. And I am going to LEAP!

No Point in Being Miserable
This morning, I woke up with a random song in my head, as always, along with several motivational quotes, of which I quickly posted to Facebook...
Stay motivated...or else!
This will be the MOST PRODUCTIVE week that I have ever had!!! #speakIT #walkingbyfaith #ledbythespirit
There is no point in being miserable. We are in FULL CONTROL of how we feel. We can either let our current situations depress us, or we can let them be catalysts for change.
Every little effort, whether good or bad, adds up.
Why worry?Someone just asked me if I was tired from having been at work all day. I simply replied, "I'm too hopeful to be tired."
Why complain?
Just make concerted efforts.
Stay motivated...or else!

The Way Writing Is Supposed to Feel
Sometimes I just like to write for writing's sake. Just to keep the creativity and thoughts in my head fresh and rolling. I can't allow anything to get stuffy up there. I gotta write...and I gotta make sure that I write like I wanna write.
Writers must understand that writing doesn't take too much energy. Not unless you are composing something for class, a presentation, or competition. If you are writing on your own terms and time, take your time! Make writing a laid-back and comfortable experience. FEEL FREE. And writing should be a freeing. One must never feel trapped.
Writing should feel the way hot syrup looks drizzled over a stack of pancakes---smooth. It should feel equivalent to honey rippling through a scalding mug of tea---unstoppable. Writing should be and feel therapeutic. And if you consider yourself to be a writer, writing should definitely be done.
The moment you get the inspiration to write, write. Jot your exciting ideas on the nearest and clearest paper you can find. Without keeping track of your motivation, you can immediately lose the thrill for writing.
The moment you get "writer's block," take a moment to think about why the "block" is even there. What's stunting your thoughts from flowing? I highly recommend taking a break and later writing about your block. If you have absolutely no inspiration and are completely exasperated from having nothing to write about, read an interesting article, go outside for fresh air, or pick and entertaining show on television. Give yourself another day to get inspiration. Above all, don't lose sight of your desire to write.
If you are not inspired, seek inspiration. If you can't find inspiration, create it.

We All Have the Burning Desire to Do Something
My grandma told me that sometimes we find
ourselves wanting to do so much that we end up doing nothing at all. We
have the burning desire to make something—anything—happen, but we don’t know
where to start. So, we start nowhere.
This is a horrible habit of mine. I have great
zeal when inspiration comes. I get excited about accomplishing certain goals or
milestones. However, I am often left with that zeal. For instance, I will tell
someone my plans for the day and all that I plan to do. I would have high
energy and motivation to get all the mentioned tasks done, but at the end of
the day, sometimes I will have accomplished one task. There have even been
instances where I wanted to socialize with friends. I would reunite with
someone that I hadn’t seen for years, give a suggestion that “we should hang
out,” and the opportunity presented itself in the form of an invite, I would
clam up and go back into my loner shell.
I wasn’t always a loner. I became one when I moved
to Buffalo, NY, for grad school. Because I moved to a place where no one really
knew my name, I was forced to sit back and observe the people before revealing
my social butterfly personality. I slowly made friends and was able to “be
myself,” but that took a while. Before then, I focused on being safe and going
to school. I didn’t know where anything was. I gained a closer relationship
with the Lord, nevertheless, but I learned to simply enjoy my own company. This
was different for me because I was very social in my hometown.
Be careful wanting to do something so badly that nothing
is produced. Be careful of wanting to write a book and not writing a book at
all. You will find yourself wasting years of productivity from desire. Desire doesn’t
get developed if there is no determination or effort behind it. Dreams die when
no life is given to them. Notice how I said given.
It takes effort to give anything.
At this point in my life, if there is anything that I
want, whether big or small, I act on it. Even if I make tiny efforts to get it
done, I do something. Right now, I want to write more, help others to get
published more, motivate people more, and eat healthier. I still love to eat
cookies and stuff my face with other sweets, but I make constant efforts to eat
more vegetables than meat. For some reason, I am intrigued by vegans and
vegetarians. They have such great energy. I’ve learned through research, observation,
and experience that too much meat in the diet can weigh a person down and cause
them to have low energy. So, I gave myself a goal of eating more vegetables,
especially raw ones, to consume all the nutrients.
Enough about food, keep in mind that what you do for the
Lord will last. There is no reason for you procrastinate on your life goals. If
there is anything that you want to fulfill, make it happen and don’t worry
about anything. The Lord created us to be fruitful in all our ways, not to be stagnant.
Out of zeal comes inspiration. Out of inspiration comes
development. Out of development comes action.

What did you want
to be when you were a child/ teenager?
A myriad of things,
really. I had typical taste that consisted of astronaut, firefighter, and such,
however, the one constant has been art. Ever since I was cognizant enough to
put pencil to paper I've always had drawing as both my outlet and my passion.
It wasn't until middle school that I decided to pursue my art more aggressively
by joining the school art club. Fast-forward to Benjamin E. Mays High School
and I would naturally join up with the art club there as sanctioned by Theresa
DuBoise who served as both a friend and mentor. I owe a great deal of my
success to her devotion and on-hands approach.
After Mays I
attended the Art Institute of Atlanta Dunwoody campus where I would earn my
B.A. in Media Arts Animation, though, that's where things become
rather...rocky. This was a time when the economy went sour and a lot of jobs
dried up and so I spent a lot of time working jobs outside of my career field
including warehousing, call-centers, and even groundskeeping recently. After I
was laid off from my last job that's when I realized that I was tired of
working for other people. So, I woke up one morning and one a whim I met up
with a field who had said that she recently took up art modeling and so i
inquired about it, she gave me a name, and from there things begin falling into
place. Now I'm becoming the art as well as networking with artist who are also
in the business itself.
Are doing your
dream job?
I'm about half way
there. I eventually want to open up a spa/ visual arts studio with some friends
of mine. Despite the slow start I most definitely feel that I am where I am
suppose to be.
What do you like
MOST about what you do? What do you like the LEAST?
I love seeing the
art come to life whether I'm producing it or being the subject of the session I
love the confidence that comes with this field.
As far as what I
like least...Me as a critic because I am extremely hard on myself.
Where do you see
yourself in the next 5 years?
I see myself continuing to model, help out
other models and working in a studio on the next big animation project.
Are you happy with
where you are in life?
I'm getting there.
I am my own worst critic and feel that I can always do better and become better
in every facet of my person be it physically, spiritually, and mentally.
What more do you
want to do with your life?
I want stability. I want to be able to just
take a trip out of town, out of the country, and be able to come back and still
be financially stable.
What
drives/motivates you?
My passion and my
results. I love knowing that I am making a difference. From the art that I
myself produce to the even becoming the art when I am modeling I love seeing
the art come to fruition over time. Some might say that I am into
instant-gratification, however, I beg to differ and insist that that's nature
of the art field given how stimulating that it can be to the senses. In this
case it's the visual arts.
What else do you do?
What else do you do?
Aside from my art I
am an avid comicbook fan and love cosplaying and attending conventions!
What is your advice
to those who are seeking employment and have no hope?
Never give up. Simple as that. As
cliche' as it may sound, you have to pick yourself up after a failure, evaluate
what went wrong exactly, and take proper measures to correct your errors. There
are indeed lessons in failure after all.

She's Gonna Jump!
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." - 2 Timothy 1:7I am at a beautiful point in my life to where I do not worry about whether or not the net of safety will be there. I am at peace knowing that the Lord will protect, guide, and strengthen me as I edge closer and closer to THE CLIFF. I will refer to what I'm talking about as THE CLIFF for now. Not a literal cliff, though. This is just a figure of speech.
THE CLIFF has brought me over and given me stability and what seems to be like safety. It has given me the resources and inspiration to move forward and possibly burrow myself deeper into what I enjoy doing. THE CLIFF has motivated me to cling to my individuality and creativity, since I have tried failingly to blend in with those who reside on and in it.
This cliff that I refer to will be the LIFE of me. And when I take my leap, I won't be looking back. I won't want to return. I will simply DELVE into the purpose that the Lord has for me and forge forward. I won't worry. I will only persevere. I will survive. I will thrive. And I will expand.
I am squatting and looking at how deep the plunge will be...and I'm not afraid. I come prepared with a rope and a waistband. No net? That's cool. Jesus' hand is good enough.
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money." - Matthew 6:24

Feature #108: Michael Nye, Managing Editor
Special skills:
Taking
terrible off-balance jumpers; being turnover prone; inability to hit the corner
three … wait, we’re not talking pick-up hoops, are we? Okay, then! I’ve taught
undergraduate and graduate students at various universities for the past
decade. I also have editorial, copy editing, administrative, grant writing, and
social media skills that would translate to other career areas.
Describe your job story:
After
I graduated college, I moved to Boston with little to no idea what I was doing
out there other than I wanted to live in Boston. After a few weeks of
searching, I ended up working for Putnam Investments as a portfolio analyst for
three years. My major was in English; dumb luck that I got the job, but when
you need work, you apply to everything, and I guess I was a good interview. In
2003, I was accepted into graduate school at the University of Missouri-St.
Louis, and earned my MFA in fiction writing in 2006. During that year, I began
doing adjunct work at Washington University, teaching fiction writing. I also
worked part-time as the managing editor of River Styx,
a multicultural literary journal based in St. Louis. After a few years of
cobbling together teaching and editing work, my girlfriend and I decided to
move to Columbia, Missouri, two hours west of St. Louis, so she could pursue
her doctorate in counseling.
I
didn’t know anyone in Columbia when I moved here, so I asked my St. Louis
friends if they knew anyone in town. So, I met up for coffee with a graduate
student I had never spoken to before in my life, and while getting to know each
other, I mentioned River Styx. She
said, “Did you know the Missouri Review
just lost its managing editor?” I didn’t! So I applied immediately,
interviewed, and was offered the job, which I began in January 2010. I’ve been
with the magazine ever since.
What did you want to be when you were a
child/ teenager?
A
baseball player. By the way, I didn’t have even the slightest ability to hit a
baseball. All I really wanted to do when I was younger was go to college so I
could be out of the house. There was no special ambition on my part.
Are doing your dream job?
I’ve
never thought of my job or career as a “dream” job; it seems too definitive. I
have no idea where the next ten or twenty or fifty years will take me, but I do
know that, right now, things are good. Along with managing the magazine, I’m a
writer, and in 2012 I published my first book, Strategies Against Extinction.
Also, one of my job duties is to teach a class each semester. My job is a bit
of a Swiss Army knife, and that will always keep my work meaningful.
What do you like MOST about what you
do? What do you like the LEAST?
What
I like most is that I publish and promote writers. Like most writers, I feel
squeamish about self-promotion, but I love telling people “Hey, you need to
read THIS” and pass along another writer’s work.
I
wouldn’t say there is anything I dislike about my job, but if anything, working
forty hours a week means that I have to make time for my own writing. I get up
early in the morning to do that, which is not that much of a problem.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5
years?
I
have no idea. When I graduated college, I couldn’t imagine that I would be
living in St. Louis, tending bar, writing stories, and teaching classes. Five
years ago, I would have never imagined moving to a college town and finding a
job at one of the most prestigious literary magazines in the country. I don’t
think or worry much about the long-term. If I focus on what’s in front of
me—publishing a quality magazine, writing a strong story—then the rest will takes
of itself.
Are you happy with where you are in
life?
Yes,
though, I think the question is misguiding. More important, I think, is to task
“is my life meaningful?” The philosopher John Stuart Mill wrote “Ask yourself
whether you are happy, and you ceases to be so.” Happiness is ephemeral.
Meaning and purpose is not. And I find my work meaningful, for myself, and for
others.
What more do you want to do with your
life?
Publish
a novel. Publish more stories. Read more good books. Continue to publish The Missouri Review and find new writers
and readers to experience and enjoy literature. Those aren’t, I suppose,
concrete and easy-to-define goals such as “buy a house” or something, but I
like having a little latitude with my goals. Having a list of goals makes me
feel like it’s more important to check something off a list rather than
actually experience it.
What drives/motivates you?
The
great American novelist Henry James has the answer to this one: “There are
three things that are important in human life. The first is to be kind. The
second is to be kind. The third is to be kind.”
What else do you do?
Writing
and publishing really do take up the bulk of my time. Beyond that, I play a lot
basketball and I’m a NBA junkie.
What is your advice to those who are seeking
employment and have no hope?
Man, what a hard question. There are so
many people that have been looking and struggling to find work, not just
meaningful work, but any work of any kind. I feel like “keep your head up” or
“have faith” shortchanges the struggle that regular people are going through.
Find work does take weeks, months, even years, to get to a place where you
really want to be … and even that might just be a stepping stone to what you’re
really after.
I guess, and this will sound corny, but
I’d start here: you can quit at any time, so why quit now? Be stubborn. Be
persistent. And talk, every day, to people that encourage you. It’s really easy
to get down on yourself and make excuses, especially when the country is really
indifferent to your suffering. Talking daily to people that believe in you,
that believe there is work out there for you, is a huge help. Send out a lot of
resumes. Ask people if they’ve heard of anything or can help you out: call it
networking or schmoozing or favoritism, whatever, but every business is a human
business, and those connections matter. There is something out there for all of
us: don’t give up!
